Johann Gutenberg's printing press. Historical artwork of the German inventor Johann Gutenberg (c.1398-1468, centre right) examining printed pages being produced by his printing press. Gutenberg's printing press was started in the 1450s, and he is recognised as one of the pioneers of European printing. He is most famous for his Gutenberg Bible, published in 1455. Artwork from the period 1920-1930, by the French artist J. L. Beuzon.
