Wright Flyer in a wind tunnel. Replica of the Wright Flyer undergoing aerodynamic tests in a wind tunnel at NASA's Langley research centre, Virginia, USA. The first ever powered flight was made by Orville Wright on 17 December 1903 at Kill Devil Hill, Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, USA. The flight lasted 12 seconds and covered a distance of 36. This replica will be flown at Kitty Hawk to mark the 100th anniversary of powered flight.
