Flying costume. Historical artwork of a person wearing a flying costume about to leap into the air. The costume comprises elaborate wings attached to the back of the suit, and by strings to the arms. An umbrella-shaped canopy protrudes from the hat and beneath the figure is suspended a basket, perhaps containing ballast. The drawing is titled 'Retif', which means 'rebellious' or 'restive' in French. Published in Aeronautica...from the year 1557 to 1880, England, c.1910.
