Diving history. Diver and his support team at the turn of the 20th century. The diver (left) is holding his rubberised cloth suit. Air was supplied to the diver through air lines that ran from a pump on a ship. To counteract the weight of the heavy brass and glass helmet, the suit included weighted boots (not seen). Due to this, such suits were known as "heavy-footers". Photographed in Marseilles, France.
