Early 20th century diver underwater, with various sea animals and plants. Early diving suits used weighted boots to prevent the diver floating to the surface, and a helmet into which an air supply was pumped from the surface. The diver is using a stick for support and holding onto a rope by which he will be pulled out of the water. The tube below the rope is the air supply tube. A knife is seen on his belt. Diving suits date from 1797, but the designs like this one were first seen from 1840. This artwork is an Italian postcard from 1917.
