Weather balloon test. Two men performing a weather, or sounding, balloon test for the Weather Bureau, Washington D.C., America. The balloon has attached to it a meteorograph at the end of a string. When aloft it simultaneously records several meteorological conditions such as atmospheric pressure, temperature and humidity. The balloon can reach the stratosphere before it bursts and the meteorograph, having fallen back to Earth, preserves the data for days or weeks until it is found. Photographed sometime between 1910 and 1923.
