Astrophotography. Historical artwork of an astronomer studying a photograph he has taken through his telescope. A photograph taken through a telescope is known as an astrograph. The first astrograph was taken by John William Draper, who photographed the moon in 1840. In 1880 Draper's son Henry took the first deep sky astrograph when he photographed the Orion Nebula.
