Solar eclipse observers, 1882. Group portrait of the astronomers who observed the total solar eclipse in Egypt on 17th May 1882. Among these is Joseph Norman Lockyer (1836-1920), seen at upper left of the central Arabic man, who is known for his discovery of helium through his observations of the Sun using electromagnetic spectroscopy.
