Caption

Early firefighting equipment, 1678. Historical artwork showing a British 17th century pump used to extinguish fires. Water was carried in the large tub to the source of the fire, then pumped manually on to the flames by the large handles at the front and back. The engines were designed and built by John Keeling in London, UK. This image was printed in The Picture Magazine in 1894.
