Friction demonstration materials. Collection of different materials that will be used as part of a classroom demonstration of friction. The materials include: aluminium foil (lower right), polystyrene (white), corrugated cardboard (upper right), cling film, non-corrugated cardboard, red cloth, wood, and rubber (lower left). Friction is a measure of the resistance to motion along a surface when two surfaces are in contact. A simple experiment to measure the coefficient of static friction is to measure the angle at which a mass will slide down an incline on different materials.
