False-colour scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a male specimen of the mosquito species Anopheles gambiae. The females of this species are carriers of the malaria parasite, Plasmodium sp.. The male is distinguished from the female of the species by the relative bushiness of the bristles on his antennae. Magnification: x8 at 35mm size.
