Caption

Feeding mosquito. Macrophotograph of a Culex quinquefasciatus mosquito feeding on a human. The female mosquito feeds on the blood of vertebrates, including humans, piercing the skin and sucking the blood through the narrow feeding tube (proboscis, orange/brown, lower right) on her head. She uses the blood meal for the production of her eggs. The male does not feed on blood. C. quinquefasciatus is a vector for several arboviruses which cause disease in humans. Magnification unknown.
