Feeding mosquito. Macrophotograph of an Anopheles gambiae mosquito feeding. The female mosquito feeds on the blood of vertebrates, including humans, piercing the skin and sucking blood through the feeding tube (proboscis, light brown, centre right) on her head. She uses the blood meal for the production of eggs. A. gambiae is the most important vector for the transmission of malaria to humans in Africa. Magnification unknown.
