Anopheles mosquito. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the front of an Anopheles sp. mosquito, the vector for the malaria parasite. The head comprises two compound eyes (blue), two antennae (not seen) and complex mouthparts. The proboscis (centre), contains the piercing and sucking instruments necessary to obtain a blood meal from humans and other animals. Magnification unknown.
