Mosquito. The head of a Corethra plumicornis mosquito comprises two compound eyes (centre right), two hairy feather-like antennae and complex mouthparts. The mouthparts consist of two mandibular palps (bottom centre) and a proboscis (bottom centre), which contains the piercing and sucking instruments necessary to obtain a blood meal from humans and other animals.
