Mosquito antenna. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of one of a mosquito's antennae. The antenna is covered with hairs that contain sensory cells, allowing the mosquito to smell food and sense movements. The hairs are aligned to maximise the surface area available for these cells.
