Feeding mosquito. Female Anopheles gambiae mosquito feeding on human blood. The female mosquito feeds by piercing the skin and sucking blood through the feeding tube (proboscis, bottom centre). She uses the blood meal for the production of eggs. This particular species of mosquito is the most important vector for the transmission of malaria to humans in Africa.
