Trapped ant. Unidentified ant trapped in tree resin. Resin is produced in large quantities on warm days, trapping insects like ants before encasing them as the resin hardens during the colder nights. This is the process by which animals became trapped in amber, the fossilised resin produced millions of years ago by now- extinct coniferous trees.
