Ant antenna. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the antenna of an unidentified ant (family Formicidae). The hairs on the surface of the antenna may allow the ant to sense smell and touch. Ants are social insects. They live in groups that range from a few individuals to complex colonies comprising several million ants. Magnification: x580 at 6x7cm size.
