Caption

Wasp with microchip. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a wasp (order Hymenoptera) holding a tiny semiconductor integrated circuit, or microchip, in its mandibles. As manufacturing techniques improve, not only do the electronic components on chips shrink, but the chips themselves can be made smaller. Chips as small as 0.1 millimetres across are now in production. Magnification unknown.
