Wasp head. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a wasp's head (order Hymenoptera). Its large compound eyes (red) are seen on either side of its head. Between the eyes are its antennae, which are used for sensing smells. Below the antennae are its powerful biting jaws (mandibles).
