Honey bee, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). The honey bee (Apis sp.) produces and stores liquefied sugar (honey), and constructs colonial nests out of wax secreted by the workers in the colony. Seen here are the compound eyes, antennae and proboscis of the head (top right) and the wings (top left). Also seen are the thorax and legs (centre) and the abdomen (bottom), which ends with the bee sting at the tip.
