Turtle ant's head. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the head of a soldier turtle ant (Cephalotes sp.) from the Amazonian rainforest. One of its compound eyes (green) is at left. Its jaws are at lower centre. The soldier ants use their enlarged heads to block the entrance of their nests against invaders.
