Moth (order Lepidoptera) against an abstract symmetrical background. The wings of moths are covered in microscopic, overlapping scales. Most moths are nocturnal and dull-coloured. The adults usually feed on pollen, using a snout-like proboscis. The antennae (white, upper centre) in male moths are often long and feathery, with sensory receptors that can detect the chemical pheromones secreted by females.
