Caption

Silver-washed fritillary butterflies (Argynnis paphia) in flight. The silver-washed fritillary inhabits open woodland throughout Europe. It is a strong flier, making fast, gliding flights above the tree canopy. Females lay their eggs on tree trunks close to clumps of violets, which the caterpillars feed on.
