Caption

Indian meal moth. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of an Indian meal moth (Plodia interpunctella) on a raisin. This is the adult form of the moth. The larvae (caterpillars) are major pests of stored foods such as dried fruits, grains and nuts. Adults do not feed. The adult moths produce pheromones (signal chemicals) to attract one another. These pheromones have been incorporated into traps used to control the moths.
