Caption

Red underwing moth. High-speed photograph of a red underwing moth (Catocala nupta) in flight over berries. The moth uses its striking colouration to startle predators. The tops of its wings are brown, which helps to hide it amongst vegetation. When threatened, it flashes the red undersides of its wings. The red underwing inhabits temperate areas of Europe and Asia.
