Birdwing butterfly (Ornithoptera tithonus) specimen. The male and female are sexually dimorphic. The male (shown here) has black, yellow and green colouring, while the female is black, brown and white. The yellow on the hindwing of the male (bottom) is translucent and smooth, while the green markings are opaque and scaled, resulting in a 3-dimensional effect. This specimen was found in Papua New Guinea.
