Female emperor moth (Pavonia pavonia) resting on bramble leaves. The large eye markings on the wings of the moth act as a deterrent to predators. The female has a wingspan of around 8 centimetres and the male, 6 centimetres. This moth is native to Britain. Photographed in Lancashire, UK.
