Emerging red admiral butterfly. Image 5 of 11. Emerging red admiral butterfly (Vanessa atlanta) suspended from a stinging nettle leaf. The butterfly's head, thorax, legs, antennae and proboscis have emerged from the chrysalis case. The proboscis (curled, centre right) is in two parts, but will eventually become one structure.
