Basket star (Astropartus mediterraneus) with its braching arms coiled into a basket shape to catch plankton. Basket stars are a specialised kind of brittle star, which are marine invertebrates related to starfish. They have five flexible arms with many branches that radiate from a central disc-shaped body (not seen). Photographed in the Mediterranean, off Levant Island, France.
