Blue shark (Prionace glauca). This shark is found throughout the world apart from in colder waters. It mainly feeds on large fish such as tuna and mackerel, and is commonly seen following the huge shoals of these prey species. However, it also eats other sharks, squid and mammals such as dolphins. It has been known to attack humans, although it rarely ventures into coastal waters. It is a sleek, fast-swimming and powerful shark, and may reach a length of up to 4 metres. Photographed off the coast of San Diego, California, USA.
