Blue shark (Prionace glauca). This is a widespread shark that inhabits temperate to tropical seas throughout the world. It prefers the pelagic zone (away from coasts), although it does venture nearer land occasionally. It is a solitary hunter, feeding on squid and shoaling fish such as anchovies and sardines. It has also been known to attack humans. The blue shark reaches a maximum length of around 2.5 metres. Photographed from a protective shark cage off San Diego, California, USA.
