Whale shark (Rhincodon typus). This shark is the largest fish in the world, growing up to 18 metres long. It inhabits tropical waters throughout the world. A filter-feeder, it strains plankton and small organisms from the water, generating its own suction rather than relying on its forward motion. Photographed in the Indian Ocean, near Ningaloo Reef, off Western Australia.
