Giant manta (Manta birostris) swimming above a coral reef. The manta is the largest of the rays, and it can reach up to six metres from wingtip to wingtip. It inhabits tropical seas throughout the world, preferring coastal waters to the open sea. It feeds mainly on plankton and small fish, which it filters from the water as it swims. Photographed in the Rangiroa Atoll in the southern Pacific Ocean.
