Blacktip reef sharks (Carcharhinus melanopterus) just beneath the surface of the water. This shark inhabits coastal waters in the tropical Indo- Pacific region. It feeds mainly on fish, although it also takes cephalopods (such as squid) and crustaceans. It is a small shark, rarely exceeding two metres in length. Despite its size, it is quite aggressive when provoked, and has been known to attack swimmers and waders. Photographed off Moorea Island, in French Polynesia.
