Caption

Carpet shark. Gaping mouth of a carpet shark, or spotted wobbegong (Orectolobus maculatus). This is a bottom-dwelling shark that inhabits reefs and shallows in the tropical Indo-Pacific region, especially around Australia. It lies camouflaged on sandy or gravelly seabeds by day, but is an active hunter at night, taking fish and invertebrates. It may reach a length of over three metres, and has been known to bite if provoked.
