Giant frogfish (Antennarius commersonii) or angler fish, foot (grey) on a sponge (white circle). This fish can walk on its foot-like fins. Although brightly coloured, this fish remains inconspicuous as it stays motionless for long periods and looks similar to rocks and sponges. Its cryptic colouration helps it to avoid predators and to catch its prey. It uses a lure to attract smaller fish, its main prey, engulfing them when they near its mouth. It may reach over 30 centimetres in length. It inhabits the tropical Indo-Pacific region. Photographed off Kapalai, Malaysia.
