Atlantic lizardfish (Synodus saurus) buried in the sand. This fish lives on sandy seabeds, where it waits to ambush its prey of other fish. Its large eyes and small and pointed teeth are seen. It can reach a length of 40 centimetres. It is found in the subtropical waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. Photographed off Levant Island, France, in the north-western Mediterranean Sea.
