Flying fish, coloured X-ray. Flying fish (family Exocoetidae) are named for their habit of leaping out of the water to escape predators. They have wide, rigid pectoral fins (left and right), which they extend in the air, enabling them to glide for hundreds of metres. This flying fish was found in the Mediterranean Sea.
