Caption

Frozen ethanoic acid. Ethanoic acid (CH3.COOH, also known as acetic acid) is the chemical that gives vinegar its sour taste and strong smell. Pure, water-free ethanoic acid freezes to the colourless solid seen here at 16.7 degrees Celsius, just below normal room temperature.
