Blotched picarel (Spicara maena) on the seabed. This fish grows to lengths of 25 centimetres. It is found in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, the Black Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea. It is often found over beds of Posidonia sea grass, feeding on small free-swimming plankton (zooplankton). Photographed off Levant Island, France, in the north-western Mediterranean Sea.
