African bullfrog. African or giant bullfrog (Pyxicephalus adspersus) peering out from beneath sand. This amphibian burrows with its hind legs and can dig deep holes in the ground. It lives in open areas of grassland and scrubland. By opening its mouth wide, the African bullfrog can swallow frogs, rodents and birds. It is native to central, eastern and southern Africa.
