Green frog. Head of a green frog (Rana clamitans melanota) emerging from duckweed in a pond. This is a common frog throughout its range in the western and northern USA and south-western Canada. It prefers marshes, lakes and slow-moving rivers. It hunts near to the shore, looking for spiders, insects, slugs and snails. Crayfish are also taken on occasion. Adults may reach 10 centimetres in length. Photographed in Michigan, USA, in summer.
