Head of the Locust borer (Megacyllene robiniae). This insect feeds on the wood of the black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia). The adults bore out of the tree in mid-August and are commonly seen feeding on pollen. They are often confused with wasps when in flight because of their similar markings.
