Red-spotted newt larva (Notophthalmus viridescens viridescens). This amphibian is a subspecies of the Eastern newt. It is the most common subspecies and inhabits forests across eastern North America. It has three life stages, an aquatic larva or tadpole stage (seen here), a terrestrial juvenile stage and an adult aquatic stage.
