Tortoise undersides. Undersides of three African tortoises: geometric (Psammobates geometricus, left) angulate (Chersina angulata, centre) and parrot-beaked (Homopus areolatus, right). Like all members of the order Chelonia, they are protected by a horny carapace or shell. The geometric tortoise is an endangered species.
