Horsfield tortoise (Testudo horsfieldi). This tortoise is native to the scrub of central Asia, although it has been introduced around the world by the pet trade. It feeds on plants. In the winter it hibernates in a burrow in the ground, and in the hottest part of the summer it aestivates, a summer hibernation aimed at avoiding excessive heat.
