Spectacled caiman (Caiman crocodilus). This reptile inhabits wetlands in Central and South America, in both fresh and salt water. It opens its mouth to help ti cool down, as it loses heat by evaporation. It is exclusively carnivorous, feeding on fish, water birds and amphibians, and taking larger prey such as pigs when fully grown. An adult male can attain a length of around 2.5 metres, with females rarely exceeding 1.5 metres. Photographed in the Brazilian Pantanal.
