Gecko (Phelsuma sp.) resting on the leaf of a tropical plant. Geckos are slender, nocturnal lizards that feed on insects. They have pads on the tips of their toes that enable them to walk on vertical sheets of glass. Many lizards are able to shed part of their tail if attacked. The missing section is later regrown. Many Phelsuma geckos are found on the island of Madagascar and other islands of the Indian Ocean, such as Mauritius and the Seychelles.
